Zero Magazine – Sweden

Esquela recorded its material to A Sign from good during the pandemic years and summer 2020. But the album is not about pandemic in itself, but rather about conversation and events that occurred simultaneously with it. Substances such as racism, sexual abuse and climate crisis are treated.

Esquela consists of John "Chico" Finn (song and songwriting), Becca Frame (Song), Keith Christopher (BAS), Brian Shafer (Guitar) and Matt Woodin (Guitar, Mandolin) while Mike Ricciardi Lirar Drums. A Sign From God is the fifth album of the American band and musically lies the emphasis on rock with country fluences and Americana at large. It is melodic, guitar drive and I like Becca Frames Song Voice. I also like several of the songs. Best of all of them are swinging "Three Finger Joe" John Finn Singing and which is a self-experienced story of racism in the deep south. Another track that deals with racism is "What's your problems?", A song originating in the police word on George Floyd. Before it in front of a nice rock song called "First World Problems" which also falls signed on the lip. I also like Stones-rocky "The Good One (Give Ups)". However, the disc starts calmer with "note in my backyard (Nimby)" that deals with the hypocrisy of humanity regarding the climate situation we have today. Another song on a fucking unpleasant theme is "Rest of My Life" who starts happily with something that will be a nice night out, but that ends in the dark in a parking lot where the woman in the text has happened really bad. A strong song with deeply touching lyrics. The final song of the disc, "Wait for Me" is a musiced Poem, written by the Russian soldier Konstantin Simonov during World War II and which is about how heavy it is to be from home while being in war. A good and keen plate from Esquela, no matter where in the world you live.
